Privacy Policy
Effective October 20, 2026
BeU ("BeU", "we") gives cosmetic and styling guidance from photos of your face, hands and hair. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, who processes it, and how to delete it.
What happens to your photos
We never save your photos. Not on our servers, and not in your account — our database is set up to reject them.
- Measured on your phone. Face and hand measurements (landmarks, proportions, colors) are computed on your device.
- Makeup and nail try-on stay on your phone. The live try-on draws lipstick, blush, brows, hair color and nail polish on your camera image on your device; nothing from it is uploaded. If you tap Save photo, the picture goes only to your own phone.
- Size finder and undertone questions stay on your phone. The body measurements, bra size and fit preference you enter, and your answers to the undertone questions, are stored only on your device.
- AI analysis (members). For the skin check, face and color read, nail read, hair read and fashion scan, your face (including the extra angles from the head circle), hand, hair or full-body photo is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to produce your results. We do not keep these photos after the analysis is returned. Under its commercial terms Anthropic doesn't train on them and deletes them from its systems within 30 days (unless needed to investigate abuse of its service).
- Hairstyle previews (members). When you tap “See it on me” on a recommended hairstyle, the one photo you pick is sent to OpenAI’s image API to draw that hairstyle on it, and the result comes straight back to your phone. We don’t store the photo or the result. OpenAI doesn’t use data sent through its API to train its models.
- Barcode, ingredient and diary tools (members). When you scan a product barcode, only the barcode number is sent to Open Beauty Facts, a free public product database, to look the product up. Ingredient lists you paste or photograph are read on your phone, and your skin diary stays on your phone.
- Ask BeU chat (members). Your questions, and a text summary of your results (never photos), are sent to Anthropic to write the answers. We don't store your chat — it lives on your device until you close the results.
- Never used for training. We never use your photos or results to train AI. Our specialists stay current through notes from working beauty professionals and a research desk that reads public professional and regulatory sources — never member data. Anthropic processes them under its commercial terms, which don't allow training its models on what we send.
- We save results, not photos. When a signed-in member finishes a scan, we save its results (like your face shape and colors) to your account — never the photo. A new scan updates your results. Signed-out scans are never saved.
- Your saved results are encrypted and private to your account. They're locked on your phone (AES-256) before they're uploaded, and the key is kept with your account so they open on every phone and browser you sign in on. Only you can access your account's results; our staff don't look at them, and we never sell or share them.
Face geometry and biometric information
Our analysis measures facial features (for example, face shape, eye shape and brow placement). We use these measurements only to generate your beauty and styling results. We never use them to identify you, to recognize you across photos, or for any purpose other than your results, and we never sell, lease or trade them. Measurements that are not part of a saved result are discarded when you close the results. Saved results are encrypted and private to your account, and are kept only until you delete them or your account. We ask for your consent before your first scan.
Reminders (iPhone and Android apps). If you're a member and turn reminders on, the BeU app schedules them on your phone itself — your routine, the look of the day and a monthly rescan nudge — at most two a day and never between 10 PM and 7 AM. They are not sent from BeU's servers and need no push token. If you add a city for weather tips, the app sends only that city's rough location (to about 10 km) to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, to get the UV and humidity forecast; BeU never receives it, and no GPS location is used. You can change or switch off reminders in Me → Reminders, or in your phone's notification settings.
TrueDepth camera (iPhone app). On iPhones with Face ID, the BeU app uses Apple's TrueDepth camera (ARKit face tracking) while you scan, to tell how your head is turned, how far the phone is, how bright and warm the room light is and which side it comes from, whether your eyes are open and looking at the lens and your face is relaxed, so the photo is taken straight on, neutral and well lit. It also measures your face in millimeters from the 3D face map: widths at the forehead, cheekbones, jaw and chin, its length and depth (brow ridge, nose), and your pupil distance — shown in your results and used to size glasses. Your face shape is worked out from the 3D face map on your phone. No 3D model or picture of your face is shown or kept. The full scan also has you turn your head left and right and tip your chin down; depth from those frames measures, on your phone, how far your hair stands out at the sides. The 3D face map itself stays on your phone — never uploaded or saved — and is discarded when you close the app. Only these numbers travel with a member's AI read, to help it judge your features and skin tone in that light; BeU's servers don't keep them, and Anthropic deletes them within 30 days and doesn't train on them. If you're a member, the measurements are saved with your results, end-to-end encrypted so only you can read them, and deleted when you delete the scan or your account. TrueDepth data is never used for advertising, marketing, identifying you or any purpose other than your scan, and is never sold or shared beyond the AI read described above.
What we collect
| Data | Why | Where it is kept |

We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we do not use third-party ad trackers.
BeU in ChatGPT
If you use the BeU app inside ChatGPT, ChatGPT sends BeU only what a tool needs to answer: a face shape or color season, face measurements, or answers about your coloring (undertone, skin depth, hair and eye color, contrast). No photos, no name, no email and no account. BeU uses them to return your style guide or palette and does not store them; our host (Vercel) keeps basic request logs (time, IP address, path) briefly for security. Your ChatGPT conversation itself is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy. Nothing from ChatGPT is linked to a BeU account.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers that run the service: Supabase (accounts and saved scans), Stripe (web payments), RevenueCat (App Store and Google Play purchases — your account ID and purchase status only), Resend (sign-in code emails), Anthropic (AI analysis and Ask BeU), OpenAI (hairstyle previews, only when you ask for one), NVIDIA (AI tests on BeU staff accounts only — never members' scans) and Vercel (hosting). Each processes data only to provide its service to us, under its own privacy and security terms.
Shopping links
Product links take you to retailers such as Amazon, Sephora and Ulta. We may earn a commission when you buy through them; it never changes your price or which products we recommend. We don't send retailers your scan results, photos or email — they see only that you arrived from a link, under their own privacy policies. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Your choices and rights
- Delete a scan: remove it from your saved scans at any time.
- Delete everything: Me tab → "Delete my account & all data" permanently erases your account and saved scans right away. Cancel your membership first; Stripe keeps billing records as required by law.
- Access or correct: your saved scans and account details are visible in the app.
- Cancel your membership any time from Me tab → "Manage or cancel".
Depending on where you live (for example California, Illinois, Texas, Washington or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights to access, delete or correct your data, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise them in the app as described above.
Legal basis for processing
We process your data on these legal bases: your consent - for biometric scanning and any marketing messages (you can withdraw consent at any time); contract - to provide the membership service you signed up for; and legitimate interest - to keep the service secure, prevent fraud, and improve BeU.
Data retention
We keep data only as long as needed:
- Photos: never saved - processed for your scan and discarded.
- Scan results: kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- Account data: kept while your account is active, deleted with your account.
- Billing records: Stripe and Apple keep transaction records as required by tax law, even after account deletion.
- AI processing: our AI providers delete scan inputs from their systems within 30 days (unless needed to investigate abuse).
For EU and UK users (GDPR)
If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, email hello@getbeu.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data breaches
If a security breach exposes your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law - within 72 hours where GDPR applies.
Children
BeU is not intended for children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Saved scans are protected so that only your signed-in account can read them, plus any smart-glasses link you create (you can revoke it in the app).
Not medical advice
Results are cosmetic and styling guidance, not a medical diagnosis. See a dermatologist for any skin concern.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
